A 6-minute game on Nonviolent Communication

ChatRescue

Five group chats are about to blow up. A flatmate, your manager, your best friend, your mum, your Erasmus team. Your replies decide how each one ends. Learn the four steps of Nonviolent Communication by using them where most conflicts start today: in your messages.

The method behind the game

Nonviolent Communication in four steps

Developed by psychologist Marshall Rosenberg, NVC helps people say what matters without blame, and listen without taking it personally. Every winning reply in the game follows this order.

1

Observation

Describe what happened, like a camera would. No labels, no "always" or "never".

"The sink has been full for 3 days."
2

Feeling

Name the emotion in you. "Ignored" or "attacked" are thoughts about others; "sad" or "frustrated" are feelings.

"I feel frustrated…"
3

Need

Connect the feeling to the universal need behind it: rest, respect, fairness, belonging.

"…because I need a clean kitchen."
4

Request

Ask for a concrete, doable action. A request can be refused; a demand can't.

"Could we make a rota tonight?"
